Man changing flat tyre killed in freak accident

The driver of a pickup truck had stopped to help the victim but it lurched forward after it was hit by a bus.

A man changing a flat tyre died when he was hit by a pickup truck that lurched forward after a bus crashed into it near Km5.5 of the Kemuning-Shah Alam Expressway today.

Shah Alam police chief Iqbal Ibrahim said the 65-year-old man had stopped his car by the roadside at about 12.30pm after one of his tyres punctured.

The driver of the pickup truck following behind stopped to help the man, who was retrieving some items from the boot of his car, when a bus hit the side of the truck, causing it to lurch forward and hitting the man.

He said the man sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, Utusan Malaysia reported.

“The victim was on his way home to Taman Sri Muda, Section 25, after going to Kuala Lumpur Hospital,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
