Kelantan police chief Yusoff Mamat said the first suspect, aged 25, was arrested at the Tasek Raja market, and the second, a 31-year-old civil servant, was caught near the Pasir Mas police headquarters.
Police subsequently raided a house at Kampung Kasa in Pasir Mas and seized several items related to MACC, he told reporters at the Kelantan police headquarters here today.
Among the items were a pistol loaded with eight live rounds, handcuffs and counterfeit MACC identification cards, all found in the suspects’ four-wheel-drive vehicle.
Various sizes of MACC badges and emblems, as well as uniforms with MACC logos believed to have been used by the suspects were also found.
Yusoff said the civil servant is believed to be an accomplice of the first suspect.
“The first suspect confessed to possessing the MACC-related items for the past three years, which he said he purchased online.
“We believe the suspect acquired these items for impersonation. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether it was for extortion or other purposes,” he said.
He said the suspects, who have no criminal record and tested negative for drugs, have been remanded for one week.
The case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for illegal possession of firearms, Section 8 of the Arms Act 1960 for carrying arms and ammunition without a permit or licence, and Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a public servant.
