Cops nab foreigner who gouged out man’s eyeball in quarrel

Police have arrested a foreign national for gouging out the left eyeball of a local man at Jalan Ara Kuda, Tasek Gelugor, Penang, yesterday

Penang police chief Hamzah Ahmad said the 28-year-old suspect was arrested after the fight at about 2pm.

“Early investigations revealed that the 52-year-old local had provoked the suspect, who then struck him and injured his eyes,” he was quoted by Bernama as saying.

Hamzah added that the injured man was taken to Kepala Batas Hospital for treatment and is in a critical condition.

The foreigner has been remanded to assist in investigations opened under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

Section 325 provides for punishment of imprisonment of not more than seven years and a fine upon conviction.
