The new Selangor DAP chairman noted that Gobind, the digital minister and Damansara MP, has said he remains dedicated to Selangor DAP and will cooperate with the newly elected 15-member committee.
“I don’t think it’s a problem. We have a very close relationship with him and have been with him for a long time.
“He (Gobind) did not seem discouraged,” he said when met after the launch of the latest e-call, GV Ride, here today.
Ng, who is also a Selangor exco member, said the party will discuss a role that can be given to Gobind, taking into account his past contributions.
At the state party elections on Nov 11, Gobind, who had led Selangor DAP since 2018, failed to gain a place on the committee when he finished 16th after receiving 675 votes.
DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook described Gobind’s loss in the state party elections as “normal” and part of the democratic process.
Although it was a shock defeat, he said, Gobind continues to play an important role as deputy chairman of the party at the national level.
“I thank Gobind for his contributions to Selangor DAP all these years. His defeat does not mean that he needs to step aside, definitely not,” Loke said, referring to Gobind’s Cabinet position.
