Responding to Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng, the ministry said samples of the fabric supplied by Peluang Kristal (M) Sdn Bhd were sent to the chemistry department for analysis to determine if they meet contract specifications.
“Following receipt of the results, the ministry issued a letter seeking an explanation from the company.
“Peluang Kristal has also submitted fabric samples to the Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (Sirim) for specification verification. The ministry is awaiting the company’s response,” the ministry said.
When debating the Supply Bill 2025 in Parliament last month, Lim spoke about the plight of government nurses who allegedly received poor quality uniform fabric.
The issue was initially raised by Senator Dr RA Lingeshwaran during an upper house sitting in September.
Lim called on the ministry to disclose the identity of the suppliers and whether any action had been taken against them.
“I want to get the ministry’s attention to address complaints about the fabric, which nurses said was very coarse. Some tailors have refused to sew uniforms out of the fabric, claiming that it may break the needle of their sewing machines.
“Others complained that their uniforms had turned yellowish very quickly, for which they received a scolding from their matrons,” he said.
On July 23 last year, Peluang Kristal secured a contract to supply 17 fabric items to the ministry.
FMT has reached out to the company for comment.
