SHAH ALAM:
The former CEO of a car dealership has been freed by the High Court of drug possession charges.

Judicial commissioner Roszianayati Ahmad held that Tajul Arus Abdul Aziz had raised a reasonable doubt at the end of his defence case.

The court said it was not safe to convict him as there were many uncertainties in the case, such as who was the last person to drive the car.

Roszianayati said the prosecution also failed to call Tajul’s wife, mother-in-law and maid, all of whom were living with him.

“It has prejudiced his right to a fair trial,” she said.

Tajul previously served a 10-year jail sentence for a firearms offence, and was released sometime in 2020.

He was rearrested by police in the same year after the authorities stormed his house and found drugs in his car.

Police witnesses claimed Tajul had looked “very nervous” at the time.

He then claimed trial to one count of trafficking heroin and three counts of possessing meth. However, the court reduced the trafficking charge to possession at the close of the prosecution’s case.

Deputy public prosecutor Rosnee Radzuan prosecuted while Tajul was represented by Kee Wei Lon and Ee Gen You.
