PETALING JAYA:
A 57-year-old man was arrested in Tumpat, Kelantan, on Sunday evening after allegedly smuggling orchids worth an estimated RM1 million from Thailand.

The suspect was held after police spotted him driving a multi-purpose vehicle in a suspicious manner, Sinar Harian reported.

According to General Operations Force spokesman Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid, the vehicle was filled with more than 280 stalks of orchids, which he said did not have valid documentation.

He said the suspect is believed to have been the “deliveryman” tasked with smuggling the orchids for the local market.

The case is being investigated under the Plant Quarantine Act 1976.
