PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested five men believed to be members of a drug trafficking syndicate and seized drugs valued at RM3 million in Penang.

Bukit Aman narcotics crime investigation department director Khaw Kok Chin said his team and their Penang counterparts conducted joint raids at about 9.50pm on Wednesday .

“In the first raid, three of the suspects were detained at a house in Tanjung Bungah, where 40.65kg of chemicals and equipment were seized,” he said in a statement today.

In the second and third raids carried out at Air Hitam and George Town, respectively, police arrested two more men suspected to be linked to the syndicate.

They seized ecstasy (13.99kg), syabu (6.03kg) and ketamine (4.99kg), sufficient to supply more than 125,000 drug users, as well as two vehicles and a motorcycle.

Khaw said the syndicate rented houses which it converted into drug processing labs and storage facilities before distributing the drugs to Penang and the Klang Valley.

A preliminary investigation found that all the suspects have criminal records. Four of them also tested positive for drugs.

Khaw said police are looking for other members from the syndicate, believed to have been operating since mid-2024.
