The Terengganu occupational safety and health department (DOSH) said the incident occurred at 4.30pm when the student, who was working part-time, was carrying building materials on a modified trolley above his head to the shoplot under renovation.
“However, the trolley broke causing the building materials to fall on him,” it said in a statement.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene from severe head injuries, DOSH said.
“The DOSH visited the shopping centre yesterday to conduct further investigations,” it added.
DOSH also said a notice of prohibition was issued to the contractor for failing to provide safe methods for unloading and moving goods.
Tthe department said there is a need for effective risk control measures by employers to reduce the risk of such accidents.
