PETALING JAYA:
Ten men were arrested after they allegedly impersonated policemen and robbed motorcyclists of their personal items and motorcycles on highways and main roads in Selangor.

State deputy police chief S Sasikala Devi said the suspects, who worked as tow truck drivers, deliverymen and technicians, were detained here at 5am on Oct 20.

The suspects are aged between 25 and 39 years.

“Investigations found that the suspects impersonated police personnel using two motorcycles,” she said at a press conference at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters (IPD) today.

“They would stop motorcyclists supposedly to carry out inspections before proceeding to steal their personal belongings and motorcycles,” she said, adding that seven motorcycles have been seized.

She said the police believe it has solved 10 robberies in Selangor as a result of the arrests.

Sasikala said preliminary investigations found that seven of the 10 men had 26 previous criminal records and 10 criminal records involving drug cases.

All the suspects have been handed over to the Sungai Buloh IPD for investigation.

In a separate case, police have successfully dismantled a gang believed to be involved in motorcycle thefts in Sungai Buloh from Oct 21 to 25.

The police seized 14 motorcycles and arrested a foreigner who is believed to have bought a stolen Honda EX5 motorcycle for RM150 from a suspect.

Sasikala said the gang usually monitors their targets a day before stealing the motorcycles, which were usually parked along sidewalks or in apartment areas.

She said the police have solved 13 motorcycle thefts in Selangor involving an estimated loss of RM32,000 with the gang’s arrest.
