
Tiong told the Dewan Rakyat that the task force would include the police, immigration department, marine department and local authorities.
He was responding to concerns Shafie Apdal (Warisan-Semporna) had raised about Chinese nationals opening businesses in his constituency, which is known for its dive resorts.
“The Semporna MP has raised this matter with me several times and the ministry has informed the immigration office to take immediate action,” Bernama quoted him as saying.
Last month, Sin Chew Daily reported that Shafie had urged the Sabah government to take action against Chinese nationals operating restaurants, leasing boats, and offering transport services to Chinese tourists.
The former Sabah chief minister said he had received numerous complaints from local companies as their livelihoods were affected.
The Sabah immigration department arrested seven Chinese nationals and four Filipinos on Oct 15 for misusing their social visit passes by working at a resort construction site in Semporna.
