
The remand order for the suspect, in his 50s, was issued by magistrate Sharifah Amirda Shasha Amir Shariffuddin in Kemaman after an application by the Terengganu branch of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
According to a source, the deputy chairman of a mosque was arrested at about noon yesterday after giving his statement at the MACC office in Kemaman.
He is believed to have submitted a false list of eligible zakat recipients, allowing his wife to receive zakat funds.
Yesterday, Terengganu MACC director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid said there could be further arrests after the mosque chairman was detained on suspicion of being involved.
The chairman is also believed to have submitted a list that included ineligible recipients, including his wife, who received RM1,000.
