Persatuan Haiwan Terbiar Malaysia (SAFM) said it condemned the act and is disturbed by the video, adding it was shocked that several people were heard laughing as though the brutal act was some form of entertainment for them.
“SAFM is appealing to anyone with relevant information to come forward,” it said in a statement.
“As of now, crucial information to identify the perpetrators, including the identity of the individual in the video, the location of the incident and the date of the event, has yet to be obtained.
“Every piece of information received is valuable in our efforts to combat animal cruelty and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
SAFM can be reached via WhatsApp at 013-7066770.
The NGO also urged the authorities to take stern action against the perpetrators to ensure the law is upheld and to send a clear message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated.
It said Section 30 of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 states that killing or causing the death of an animal without a valid reason can result in a three-year jail term, a fine of up to RM100,000, or both.
“As a compassionate society, let us unite to ensure that those responsible for this cruel act do not escape the punishment they deserve,” said SAFM.
