A fire department spokesman said the lorry driver, G Mageswara, 53, also died, together with the four people in the Myvi. They were: Junaizi Jusoh, 48; Shazwani, 39; Farhana, 35; and Fakrul Danish Junaizi, 20.
Farhana was driving the Myvi, which was the last car in a convoy of three cars, said her sister Najdiah Ismail, Bernama reported.
They were travelling on the Gua Musang-Lojing road and were supposed to meet at a petrol station along the way. Farhana’s car never showed up while phone calls to another sister, Shazwani, was not answered.
Najdiah, 41, said they assumed that Shazwani’s phone did not have coverage, so they decided to proceed with their journey. However, they later made calls to other passengers, which went through but went unanswered.
This prompted them to turn back and look for them, before arriving at Km86 where the accident occurred.
“When we arrived at the scene, we saw a lorry had crashed, and I noticed fragments of my sister’s car on the road. The policemen at the scene said the car had fallen into a ravine,” she said.
She said Shazwani was especially excited about the trip, which they had planned for this weekend to beat the crowd with the upcoming Deepavali holiday. It was supposed to be just a two-day trip, with the family having planned to return tomorrow.
Police said the accident happened at about 11am. The lorry, headed from Cameron Highlands to Lojing, lost control and swerved into the opposite lane, colliding with the Myvi which plunged into the ravine, while the lorry overturned on the opposite lane.
