The Shah Alam High Court heard a statement of regret and a retraction by Abdul Razak Ismail over two press releases and 41 other Facebook postings which allegedly defamed Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd.
PETALING JAYA:
The secretary-general of a pro-environment political party has expressed regret over multiple statements made to the press and on social media deemed defamatory of Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB).

Abdul Razak Ismail of the Green Party of Malaysia also agreed to retract all libellous statements published on Facebook about the construction and property development company.

“I would like to offer my deep regret in respect of the press releases issued by me on March 21 and April 3, 2023, as well as the 41 publications made by myself on my Facebook account which have offended you,” he said in a letter to MRCB.

Razak read out his statement of regret when the matter was called up for trial in the Shah Alam High Court yesterday.

His lawyer, Rajesh Nagarajan, said the statement and retraction were part of the terms of settlement agreed upon in a consent judgment entered before Justice Khadijah Idris.

MRCB filed its lawsuit against the former PKR leader for defamation last year after he questioned the terms of a deal regarding a redevelopment project involving the Shah Alam Stadium.

The company had sought RM60 million in damages and an injunction to prevent Razak from repeating his statements.

The Selangor government had in July 2023 said it had appointed MRCB to carry out the project through a private-public partnership after screening 15 other firms.
