PETALING JAYA:
An interracial relations policy established by the Kelantan government more than 30 years ago has succeeded in fostering harmony among the different races, says a member of the state executive council.

Zamakhshari Muhamad, the chairman of the community unity committee, said this policy has been key to preserving the unity, customs and welfare of the people across ethnicities in Kelantan.

“Through this policy, the state government positions Kelantan’s philosophy as the leader of change in promoting interracial harmony, based on Islamic principles and the Rukun Negara,” Bernama quoted him as saying.

He also said the state government has set up an interracial integration centre aimed at continuing efforts to foster harmony, while taking into account “the threat of modernisation”, especially with the boom of social media.

Zamakhshari, who earlier officiated a state-level seminar on national unity in Kota Bharu, said unity must not merely be a slogan but an action and practice applied in daily life.
