GISBH-linked man seeks review of intimidation charge

Lawyer says Riza Maka will lodge representations with the Attorney-General's Chambers.

Riza Makar is accused of threatening a woman to withdraw a police report filed against GISBH.
PUTRAJAYA:
A businessman linked to Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH) is seeking to have his charge for criminally intimidating a woman reviewed by the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

Lawyer Boestamam Ahmad told magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin he has been instructed to lodge representations with the prosecution, a magistrates’ court heard today.

“We want the prosecution to assess if the actions of the accused fit the charge,” he said.

Deputy public prosecutor Sabri Othman did not object to the request.

Irza fixed the case for mention on Nov 25 to enable the prosecution and defence to update the court on the outcome of the representations.

Boestamam later told FMT the representations would be sent next week.

Riza, 39, pleaded not guilty to the offence on Sept 18 after the charge, framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code, was read to him.

The offence is punishable with imprisonment for up to two years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Riza is accused of threatening Siti Nur Dalila Diyana Ismail, 25, at the car park of the Galeria retail complex in Presint 4, Putrajaya, at about 10pm on Sept 9.

He is purported to have made the threat to secure the withdrawal of a police report filed by his alleged victim against the company.

He allegedly told her he knew where she lived with her husband and family.

The prosecution had during submissions over bail linked Riza with GISBH.

The court set bail at RM10,000 in one surety, which he posted.

Riza was also ordered to surrender his passport and report to a nearby police station once a month until conclusion of the case.
