
In Kedah, the state’s civil defence force’s deputy director Suhaimi Zain said the floods have spread to Baling, where three temporary relief centres (PPS) have been opened. Two PPS have also been opened in Sik.
“The three PPS in Baling are hosting 69 people from 26 families while 54 families have been relocated to the two PPS in Sik,” he said in a statement here today.
He said Kota Setar still had the highest number of victims, totalling 1,238 people from 372 families, who are staying at nine PPS. He added that 507 people from 139 families are currently staying at two PPS in Pendang.
In the Kubang Pasu district, two PPSs are still operating with 146 people from 52 families, while one PPS in Pokok Sena is hosting 98 people from 36 families.
Meanwhile in Johor, two more PPS were opened in Kluang and Kulai, respectively, as the number of victims in the state increased to 147 people this morning, compared with only 17 victims last night.
The 17 victims, from three families, were those affected by the floods in the Batu Pahat district. They are currently placed at the SK Seri Bunut.
Johor state disaster management committee chairman Azmi Rohani said 61 victims are staying at the PPS at SK Seri Kampung Renggam, Kluang, while the remaining victims are at the PPS at the Kampung Murni Jaya hall in Kulai.
MetMalaysia predicts thunderstorms in Kluang and Kulai this afternoon.
In Perak, the state disaster management committee said that the number of flood victims increased slightly to 166 people this morning, compared with 136 people last night.
Another PPS was opened at SMK Sultan Idris Shah II in the Hulu Perak district at 12.20am today to accommodate 30 people after their homes in Kampung Air Panas were affected by floods.
“The number of flood victims in the Kerian district remains at 71 people, who are placed at the PPS at SK Changkat Lobak, while the PPS at SK Parit Haji Aman is temporarily housing 65 people,” according to the secretariat.
