Duo nabbed for extortion, impersonating cops

The arrests in Kota Tinggi, Johor, come after a foreigner lodged a police report that he had been robbed of RM1,300.

Police said the suspects could have been involved in a similar case in September.

Police arrested two men suspected of extortion and impersonating police officers at Bandar Tenggara here yesterday.

Kota Tinggi police chief Yusof Othman said they received a report from a 38-year-old foreigner who claimed to have lost RM1,300 to two men at about 11.55pm on Monday.

Based on the information, police arrested the suspects, both aged 20, at about midnight on Tuesday.

He said police seized a motorcycle believed to have been used in the crime.

The suspects were also believed to have been involved in a robbery case targeting foreigners on Jalan Pahlawan on Sept 22, he said in a statement.

Yusof said they tested negative for drugs.
