PETALING JAYA:
Police will summon Bloomberg in their probe into allegations that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim interfered in investigations carried out by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa said MACC lodged a report following comments made on social media by former Umno Supreme Council member Isham Jalil over the matter, Berita Harian reported.

“We have recorded the statements of two individuals, namely the complainant (MACC) and Isham,” he was quoted as saying.

“Several others, particularly from Bloomberg, will be called in soon.”

Rusdi said the case is being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Yesterday, it was reported that Putrajaya police had taken Isham’s statement after he suggested that Anwar sue Bloomberg for reporting that he was involved in deciding who MACC should investigate.

Citing sources, Bloomberg reported last month that MACC chief Azam Baki told officers in the agency that Anwar had given instructions to investigate former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his sons, as well as former finance minister Daim Zainuddin.

The report also claimed that MACC was told not to investigate share purchases by Anwar’s former political secretary, Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak.

Both the Prime Minister’s Office and MACC denied Bloomberg’s claims.

Daim’s wife, Naimah Khalid, has since lodged a police report over the report and called on authorities to establish a task force to investigate the claims.

Earlier today, their lawyers slammed the police for “failing” to investigate the prime minister over the report.
