PETALING JAYA:
A lawyer has claimed trial in the magistrates’ court in Ipoh to a charge of hurting a woman in a dispute over a parking spot last February.

Goh Suan Poi, 72, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out to her before magistrate Evangelin Simon Silvaraj.

According to Harian Metro, Goh is accused of voluntarily causing hurt to Ashvinder Kaur, 35, in the parking lot of a supermarket in Ulu Kinta at 6.46pm on Feb 18.

She was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Monisha Pandey requested for bail to be set at RM1,000 in one surety.

Khairil Azwar Khalil, representing Goh, asked for a lower bail, citing that his client is a former teacher who served from 1976 to 1997 before switching to a legal career in 1998.

He also told the court that Goh had cooperated fully with the police throughout the investigation.

The court set bail at RM500 in one surety and scheduled case mention for Nov 11.
