Teo, who is deputy communications minister, was elected by the top 15 candidates who earned the most votes from Johor DAP delegates today.
Her deputy is Kluang MP Wong Shu Qi.
In a statement this evening, Teo said seven other women were elected to the 2024-2027 Johor DAP leadership, making up 45% of the 20-member state committee.

She added that this percentage of women representation is the highest among all state DAP committees at present.
“It is a huge honour to serve as the first chairlady of Johor DAP, and I am proud to join the ranks of only two other state chairladies in the history of DAP across Malaysia,” she said.
Teo garnered the third-most votes with 692 in today’s party elections, after Iskandar Puteri city councillor Ng Siam Luang (762) and three-term Stulang assemblyman Andrew Chen (717).
