PETALING JAYA:
The Selangor veterinary services department (DVS) has opened up adoption applications for the dog that was abused by a national badminton player.

The announcement was made in a Facebook post, saying that the department has extended the deadline for applications until Oct 8.

The department had initially put up a post on the adoption a week ago featuring a poster with a picture of the husky that read: “I’m looking for a new home!”

Those interested in adopting the husky may download the application form from the DVS website, fill it up and send it to the Selangor DVS office.

The husky’s former owner, Samuel Lee, has been fined RM25,000 in default six months in jail by the Kajang sessions court after pleading guilty to repeatedly beating a dog at his house last month.

Lee was charged with repeatedly beating a dog with his hands on the balcony of his residence at Landmark Residence, Kajang, between 12.09am and 12.19am on July 1.

The charge, framed under Section 29(1)(a) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015, provides a fine of up to RM100,000, a maximum prison sentence of three years, or both, upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, Lee’s act was recorded by a neighbour and the video went viral on social media.
