PETALING JAYA:
An Umno leader has hit out at Amanah Youth chief Hasbie Muda for calling for a unity state government to be formed in Johor following Barisan Nasional’s thumping win in Mahkota yesterday.

Umno Youth secretary Hafiz Ariffin said Hasbie’s call was hasty given that it was made less than 24 hours after BN’s Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah’s victory with a majority of 20,648 votes in the by-election.

Hasbie, the Pakatan Harapan Youth deputy chief, had said earlier today that PH should be included in the Johor government in line with the unity coalition federal government. Amanah and its PH partners are part of the federal coalition but are not included in the BN-run Johor government.

Hafiz, who is also BN Youth secretary, said in a statement: “Let the rakyat enjoy the Mahkota victory first rather than making demands for power-sharing.”

He urged Hasbi not to “let others see this and perceive a sense of hastiness in the expression of your wishes” adding that what was more important was a good relationship between the federal and state governments.

Last year, Johor Amanah chief Aminolhuda Hassan had made a similar call for power-sharing which was brushed off by Johor BN chief and menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

Last month, Amanah and Umno leaders had been at odds over who should contest the Mahkota seat, with Amanah demanding that it be allowed to field its candidate. The party eventually conceded after the PH leadership agreed to make way for BN in the by-election.

Mahkota has been an Umno-BN stronghold until 2018 when Said Jonit of Amanah (then an opposition party) defeated two-term assemblyman Jais Sarday of Umno with a majority of 1,668 votes.
