PETALING JAYA:
A 32-year-old soldier drowned in the Linggiu reservoir in Kota Tinggi, Johor, this morning after he fell into the water when his boat collided with driftwood.

Kota Tinggi police chief Yusof Othman said the victim and three others were on an armed forces boat on duty at the reservoir when the vessel collided with the floating log, throwing all four into the reservoir.

“The other three saved themselves, but the victim did not resurface. They tried to search for him around the area but failed to find any hints as to his whereabouts. They then notified their superiors,” he said in a statement.

Yusof said a team of scuba divers later found the victim’s body 13m underwater and about seven metres from where the collision occurred.
