PETALING JAYA:
PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has expressed shock that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has yet to declare his assets after nearly two years in office.

Tuan Ibrahim, who served as environment and water minister in the previous two administrations, claimed all Cabinet members and government MPs were required to declare their assets.

“The failure to do so after nearly two years is unfortunate for the reform efforts that he has been championing,” the Kubang Kerian MP told FMT.

“This appears to be a step backward compared with how things were when Muhyiddin Yassin or Ismail Sabri Yaakob led the government as prime minister.”

As a response to criticism of politicians resisting any move to declare their assets, Anwar reportedly said on Thursday that he was ready to declare his assets at any time.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan was previously reported to have said the requirement to declare assets, under a draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) on fund allocations for the opposition, should only be practised by members of the current government holding positions like prime minister, deputy prime minister, ministers and deputy ministers.

Meanwhile, Bersatu information chief Razali Idris said Anwar should lead by example and declare his assets immediately.

“He must set the standard first, not compel the opposition to do so, as those in power are the ones responsible for transparency.

“When the present opposition was in power, there wasn’t any issue in declaring assets voluntarily, as we have done it before,” the senator said.
