PETALING JAYA:
Welfare payments should be resumed to several residents of an old folk’s home found to be operating without a licence, Parti Sosialis Malaysia said today.

Penang PSM committee member Choo Chon Kai said the welfare payments for senior citizens and disabled residents at Ganapathy Senior Citizen Home had been abruptly halted.

“The decision is unreasonable, insensitive and inhumane,” he said in a statement.

The residents were also instructed to vacate the premises, Choo said. He alleged that the residents were informed that the payments would not resume so long as they remained at the home.

“Where will they go? Does the welfare department have a free facility available for them?” he said. He added that the management of the home is currently in the process of obtaining a licence to provide accommodation and care to its residents.

FMT is seeking comment from the welfare department.
