KLUANG:
Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Mahkota by-election candidate, Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah, was defending a blind person from being harassed by a group of people in a 2008 assault case linked to him, says BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Zahid, who is also Umno president, said the incident occurred when Syed Hussien was in his 20s, and no charges were brought against him due to a lack of evidence.

“I have checked and he has no criminal record nor was he ever brought to court,” he told reporters after the Tautan Kasih programme in Kampung Orang Asli Tanah Runtuh today.

“According to the reports (I obtained), Syed Hussien intervened to protect the blind person who was being harassed and attacked by a group.”

Earlier today, FMT reported Syed Hussien as having denied a claim by Bersatu’s Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, that police documents allegedly showed Syed Hussien had been in a fight which resulted in persons getting injured.

Badrul called for Syed Hussien to clarify if he was the individual named in the police documents that the former had obtained.

Zahid called the opposition desperate for resorting to personal attacks to undermine voters’ confidence in Syed Hussien.

“Perhaps because there is no support for their candidate, they are trying to disturb our candidate,” he said.

It is believed that Kluang Umno’s Youth wing will file a police report against Badrul at the Kluang police headquarters at 4pm today.
