Khairuddin said a malicious campaign was under way to tarnish his reputation as he had adhered to all protocols, including strict spending guidelines for the department’s operations.
He also said all J-Kom funds required approval from the secretary-general of the communications ministry.
“How could I possibly misuse J-Kom funds in just six months? The ministry’s financial system was too new for me,” the former assemblyman told FMT.
Khairuddin had initially chosen not to engage in speculation but changed his mind. “I feel compelled to come forward to clear my name from these serious accusations being circulated by certain parties.”
Yesterday, FMT quoted a source close to the matter as saying that under Khairuddin’s watch, J-Kom had carried out programmes and procurements via an NGO.
He is also alleged to have implemented various programmes for the department, including overseas trips, which led to accusations of funds being wasted.
At yesterday’s post-Cabinet press conference, communications minister Fahmi Fadzil, who is also the government spokesman, said the hiring and termination of people was “normal”.
He refused to comment on why Khairuddin’s contract was terminated.
Khairuddin, a former two-term Paya Jaras assemblyman, was appointed to the position on March 1, succeeding Agus Yusoff, who resigned in November amid controversy surrounding an alleged lewd conversation between him and another man.
