KLUANG:
Early voters in the Mahkota by-election are likely to favour the Barisan Nasional candidate, according to Umno Supreme Council member Tengku Zafrul Aziz.

He said he was optimistic of BN’s chances because the party’s candidate has the quality, credibility and experience to serve the constituents.

“From the quality of the candidate, I am optimistic he can get the early votes,” he told reporters after a walkabout in Kampung Melayu Dua here today.

A total of 4,510 military personnel and their spouses, as well as 401 policemen, will cast their ballots from 8am to 5pm tomorrow as early voters in the by-election for the Johor state assembly seat. Polling will be held on Sept 28.

The BN candidate, Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah, is the Kluang Umno Youth chief and a member of the Kluang Municipal Council for the Seri Impian zone. He is also active in various youth activities and as a volunteer in civil society organisations.

The Mahkota by-election is a straight fight between Syed Hussien and Haizan Jaafar of Perikatan Nasional. The by-election was called following the death of assemblyman Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on Aug 2.
