
He said he was optimistic of BN’s chances because the party’s candidate has the quality, credibility and experience to serve the constituents.
“From the quality of the candidate, I am optimistic he can get the early votes,” he told reporters after a walkabout in Kampung Melayu Dua here today.
A total of 4,510 military personnel and their spouses, as well as 401 policemen, will cast their ballots from 8am to 5pm tomorrow as early voters in the by-election for the Johor state assembly seat. Polling will be held on Sept 28.
The BN candidate, Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah, is the Kluang Umno Youth chief and a member of the Kluang Municipal Council for the Seri Impian zone. He is also active in various youth activities and as a volunteer in civil society organisations.
The Mahkota by-election is a straight fight between Syed Hussien and Haizan Jaafar of Perikatan Nasional. The by-election was called following the death of assemblyman Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on Aug 2.
