PETALING JAYA: An inmate who escaped while being treated at Sungai Buloh Hospital is back in the prisons department’s custody after five days on the run.
The prisons department said the man was rearrested at the Rapid Kuantan bus terminal in Pahang, following investigations and a public tip-off.
“The remand detainee was handed over to the police for further action,” it said, adding that it will take stern action on its personnel if they are found to have been negligent in carrying out their duties.
The inmate who was under remand at Sungai Buloh prison had escaped at 3.56pm last Wednesday when being treated at Sungai Buloh Hospital’s emergency department.
Police identified the inmate as 27-year-old Kalai Kumar Anandan, who has a criminal record, including for narcotics-related offences.
