Wee said Sabah MCA was committed to doing its best in response to the unique political scene in the state, especially the shift in political power after the 2020 elections, Bernama reported.
“Therefore, BN will work as a team and what’s important is how the internal discussions within BN are conducted,” he was quoted as saying.
Wee was in Kota Kinabalu to open the Sabah MCA assembly. Present were Sabah MCA chairman Teah Heok Kuin and Abdul Aziz Julkarnain, the political secretary to Sabah BN chairman Bung Moktar Radin.
Wee said MCA would leave it to Sabah BN to handle the matter of seat allocations, noting that the state parties in BN had been given autonomy by their respective central leaderships.
“I’m confident they have a better understanding of what is happening in Sabah,” he said.
Borneo Post quoted Wee as saying that he was impressed with the loyalty and support of its members in Sabah. Despite losing its four contests (Kapayan, Likas, Karamunting and Elopura) in 2020, only “one or two” left the party.
“We hear of party hopping in Sabah, some jumping from party to party, but that is not the case with Sabah MCA. There are a few who left the party but not many are prominent figures that led many to join them.
“These people may have their own intentions so it is ok, they can go. What is important to me is that the party remains intact.”
The state government’s current mandate will end in September 2025.
