PETALING JAYA:
A total of 1,056 students of schools designated as flood relief centres are to study from home.

The education ministry said today schools would notify the parents or guardians of the affected students regarding this matter, Bernama reported.

Students will return to school tomorrow or on Monday after the end of their one-week Term Two holidays.

As of yesterday, five primary schools and one secondary school in Kedah were also affected by floods.

A total of 36 educational institutions in three states are also serving as relief centres.

The number of flood victims in Kedah had risen to 8,898 people from 2,871 families as of 8am today, up from 8,066 people reported last night.

Perlis has fully recovered with all flood relief centres closed.

In a statement today, the education ministry said the state education departments and district education offices had mobilised their smart support teams and academic support teams to assist students, some staying at flood relief centres, with counselling and learning.

The home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) method, which was utilised during the Covid-19 pandemic period, will be implemented.

The ministry is monitoring the flood situation to ensure the safety of both students and teachers.
