Visual harassment typically refers to the act of forcing a person to view an offensive or sexually explicit image or video, or making obscene gestures to them.
Women, family and community development minister Nancy Shukri said the tribunal also ordered the man to issue an apology to the complainant, Utusan Borneo reported.
She added that this was among the three cases that the tribunal has settled since its establishment last December.
According to Nancy, the tribunal issued its first award last July to the victim of a physical sexual harassment case in Negeri Sembilan. It involved a male employer and his female employee, with the man also ordered to issue an apology to the complainant.
Nancy said the other case heard by the tribunal involved a verbal harassment complaint in KL. The tribunal rejected the complaint after finding that the allegation against the respondent could not be proven, she added.
“All awards were issued within 60 days of the first hearing date, in line with Section 19(1) of the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act 2022,” she was quoted as saying.
The minister reiterated that offenders already charged in court could also be hauled up before the tribunal, if the victims would like to seek compensation.
Victims of sexual harassment may file complaints at the tribunal’s counter at the ministry’s headquarters or contact Talian Kasih at 15999.
