
In July, the full name of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin was changed to Zayn Rayyan Zaim Ikhwan after an amendment was made at the national registration department by his mother, Ismanira Abdul Manaf.
Zayn’s father, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, and mother, Ismanira, were jointly charged in June with child neglect.
Judge Syahliza Warnoh set three weeks to hear the case; Jan 20-24, Feb 3-7, and Feb 17-21.
During case mention today, deputy public prosecutor Kalmizah Salleh informed the court the prosecution intends to call 15 witnesses to testify against the couple.
She also told the court the prosecution has provided the defence three forensic reports, CCTV footage of the crime scene, and telephone records, according to Utusan Malaysia.
Lawyer Fahmi Moin said the defence intends to lodge representations with the Attorney-General’s Chambers soon seeking a review of the charges brought against his clients.
The court fixed the case for further mention on Dec 6.
On June 13, Zaim and Ismanira pleaded not guilty to a charge of child neglect framed under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, read with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
If found guilty, they could each face a fine of not more than RM50,000, imprisonment of up to 20 years, or both.
The offence is alleged to have taken place at Jalan PJU 10/1, Damansara Damai, between noon on Dec 5, 2023, and 9.55pm the following day.
