Woman dies after falling into drainage hole while hiking

A 50-year-old woman was pronounced dead after falling into a two-metre-deep drainage hole while hiking at Jalan Kolam Cherok Tok Kun.

The victim’s body was retrieved from the drainage hole at Jalan Kolam Cherok Tok Kun in Bukit Mertajam by firemen.

A hiker lost her life after falling into a two-metre-deep drainage hole while hiking in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, today.

The Penang fire and rescue department said the 50-year-old woman, identified as Oh Ai Chin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Bukit Mertajam fire and rescue department said it received a distress call about the hiker at around 1pm today.

Operations commander Azmi Zakaria then led a six-member team to the scene at Jalan Kolam Cherok Tok Kun.

“The fire and rescue team assisted the police in retrieving the victim, who is believed to have fallen into a drainage hole while hiking,” the department said in a statement.
