
PETALING JAYA: A hiker lost her life after falling into a two-metre-deep drainage hole while hiking in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, today.
The Penang fire and rescue department said the 50-year-old woman, identified as Oh Ai Chin, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Bukit Mertajam fire and rescue department said it received a distress call about the hiker at around 1pm today.
Operations commander Azmi Zakaria then led a six-member team to the scene at Jalan Kolam Cherok Tok Kun.
“The fire and rescue team assisted the police in retrieving the victim, who is believed to have fallen into a drainage hole while hiking,” the department said in a statement.
