GEORGE TOWN:
Two of Penang’s upcoming industrial parks will provide several hundred hectares of industrial land to meet the growing demands by both local and international investors, says chief minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Chow was referring to the Bandar Cassia Technology Park (BCTP) and Batu Kawan Industry Park 3 (BKIP3) which are being developed by Penang Development Corporation in South Seberang Perai.

“We are comfortable in the sense that we have a few hundred hectares of industrial land ready.

“This compares to the situation a few years ago, when we had a shortfall of land ready for industrial needs,” he told reporters after a Malidur Rasul event at Padang Brown.

BCTP, launched in 2022, is a state-of-the-art industrial park covering 122ha. The development is divided into five phases, each with varying acreage.

Chow said the 100ha BCTP is progressing smoothly with earthworks and infrastructure development. It is on track for completion by 2026, with several factories already under construction.

“So far, four investors have committed to setting up operations at BCTP, with two having already begun work and the other two expected to commence work soon.

“Promotion of the new industrial land will continue until all plots are sold for industrial use.”

Chow said BKIP3 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in February this year.

It is in the early stages of development, with land reclamation and infrastructure work for phases 1 and 2 currently underway. This park is expected to be completed in full by 2026.
