Kota Setar police launch probe into ‘basikal lajak’ incident

A video, which has gone viral, shows a group of about eight teenagers riding modified bicycles and one of them falling and hurting himself.

Police said the group raced among themselves at the Jalan Teluk Wanjah bridge in Alor Setar, Kedah, without regard for other road users.

Police have launched an investigation after a group of teenagers were recorded riding their modified bicycles recklessly, with one of them even falling and hurting himself on the road.

Kota Setar police chief Siti Nor Salawati Saad said they received information from the public regarding a 20-second video clip of the incident at 9.24am today.

“A preliminary investigation found that the incident occurred at about 5.30pm last Friday, with about eight teenagers riding the modified bicycles, commonly known as ‘basikal lajak’.

“They were seen racing among themselves at the Jalan Teluk Wanjah bridge here without regard for other road users,” she said in a statement.

While no complaints had been lodged over the incident itself, Siti said the Kota Setar traffic investigation and enforcement division lodged a report to allow an investigation to be carried out.

She also urged those with information to contact investigating officer Ifzam Zaini at 012-4043373 or the Kota Setar traffic police station at 04-7321222.
