PETALING JAYA:
Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor says he holds no ambition of being named as the prime ministerial candidate for Perikatan Nasional (PN).

The PAS election director said this in response to a delegate’s comment at the party’s youth wing muktamar today that Sanusi should be considered for the post given his strong leadership skills as well as his relatability with the public.

Sanusi, however, stressed that he is a party man and would follow the lead of PAS’s top brass.

“I”m not ready (to be a prime ministerial candidate), look for someone else,” he told a press conference after officiating the PAS women’s wing muktamar.

He said he will not put himself forward or seek the position in any way. Instead, he added, his only focus was the duties entrusted to him, particularly overseeing the administration in Kedah.

“I’ll follow the party’s directives,” Sanusi said.

Earlier, PAS grassroots leaders said that the party is not short of prime minister candidates besides its vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

Grassroots leaders met by FMT at the PAS muktamar had mooted Sanusi, PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden, and Bachok MP Syahir Che Sulaiman as credible candidates for the top post.

Party delegates also rejected claims that PAS lacks capable leaders who are adept at administration.

Previously, Samsuri, who is also Kemaman MP, was touted as a potential future PN prime ministerial candidate, a prospect acknowledged by coalition chairman Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin made this statement while campaigning for Samsuri during the Kemaman by-election last year.

The coalition was believed to have placed the Rhu Redang assemblyman as its candidate for the vacant Kemaman parliamentary seat with a view towards increasing his profile at the national level ahead of the 16th general election (GE16).
