Don’t marry to win votes, do it for God, says Sanusi

PAS election director Sanusi Nor says it is not right to marry for votes.

Sanusi Nor suggested that Aubidullah Fahim Ibrahim’s proposal for PAS members to marry non-Malays to gain votes was just to liven up the debate at the youth wing’s muktamar yesterday.
TEMERLOH:
Sanusi Nor disagrees with a suggestion from a PAS Youth leader for members to marry non-Malays as a way to increase support for the Islamic party.

Sanusi, who is the PAS election director, advised those who wish to get married to do so sincerely for the sake of God and not for any other reason.

“Marriage should be for ‘lillahi ta’ala’ (for the sake of Allah). Marrying for votes is not right.

“Perhaps it was just the delegate’s way of livening up the debate at the PAS Youth assembly,” he said after officiating the party’s women’s wing muktamar.

However, the Kedah menteri besar said that, in general, anyone with the means and courage has the right to enter into a mixed marriage.

Yesterday, PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden said the proposal, made by Selangor PAS Youth secretary Aubidullah Fahim Ibrahim, should not be taken seriously.

Afnan said Aubidullah was only expressing his own opinion as a delegate during the muktamar and not a party decision.

Aubidullah’s proposal came in the wake of a call by PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man for the wing to focus on wooing the support of the non-Malays so that the party could helm the federal government after the next election.
