The child’s father, identified only as Ahmad to protect the minor, said he was informed via a letter dated Nov 10 that the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) had instructed the police to reopen the case.
The police had in 2021 classified the initial report as “NFA” to signify that no further action was required in the case.
However, Ahmad said the AGC ordered that the probe be reopened after reviewing a medical report on the injuries suffered.
“It has been more than nine months now and I have not heard from the investigating officer on its progress despite my queries,” he told FMT.
Ahmad said that his daughter had to undergo four surgeries and had her pancreas and part of her duodenum removed as a result of the injuries she suffered when only three years old.
He alleged that his ex-wife, a nurse, had informed the police that the daughter had sustained injuries after knocking into the sofa.
Doctors, however, believe the injuries were the result of physical abuse as the internal organs were damaged, he said.
Ahmad said two hospitals have since corroborated the doctors’ suspicion, noting that the child suffered high impact injuries which were likely non-accidental.
A report issued by one of the hospitals stated that the girl suffered “traumatic pancreaticoduodenal injury”, an internal injury caused by high impact hits.
Ahmad said the findings of the doctors and the two hospitals, contained in reports in his possession, pointed towards physical abuse.
FMT has reached out to the investigating officer for comment.
