PETALING JAYA:
A local man has been arrested for filing a false police report after claiming he was robbed at knife-point by three unidentified individuals in Genting Highlands yesterday.

In a statement, Bentong police chief Zaiham Kahar said the 26-year-old reported losing RM20,400 in the alleged robbery.

However, police investigation and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage revealed that the man had instead met another individual and sold a gold ring, a mobile phone, and a necklace, to fund his gambling habit.

If convicted, he faces a maximum of six months in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
