Deputy health minister Lukanisman Awang Sauni said top-scorers in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination who wish to study medicine can do so at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) for free.
“I advise them to take the opportunity the state government has provided,” Bernama quoted him as saying.
This is not the first time the state has offered free education to SPM top scorers.
In July, Sarawak’s deputy education minister Annuar Rapaee said those with 10As who failed to enter matriculation or public university foundation programmes could enrol at University of Technology Sarawak.
The programme would be “totally free” and students need not worry about funds.
Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg had also previously announced that the state would provide free education for over 25,000 prospective students in all Sarawak-owned universities starting from 2026.
