Lim said it was important for laws to be updated to create new visions, in line with global developments and changes.
“We must not be sticklers with the constitution. Be prepared for a new world, envisage a world of artificial intelligence (AI) and humanity going to space. That’s a completely different world from 5,000 years ago,” he said at the inaugural Karpal Singh law scholarship award ceremony at Theatre Impian here today.
The former MP urged the law students receiving the scholarship to keep up with global developments and to push for a world where justice, compassion and humanity are upheld.
The Karpal Singh law scholarship, in commemoration of the late former DAP chairman, was awarded to 10 law students out of over 400 applicants.
DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said the party intends to make the scholarship a yearly initiative and also to eventually establish a foundation named after the “Tiger of Jelutong”.
