PETALING JAYA:
The ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) should invite Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) to be a component and strengthen the “Borneo bloc”, says PBM president Larry Sng.

The Julau MP said his party was, after all, “Borneo-based”.

“If GRS intends to strengthen the ‘Borneo bloc’, they should invite PBM to join them,” Sng told The Borneo Post.

He was asked to comment on whether PBM would apply to join GRS, especially since it was insisting on fielding candidates in the impending Sabah state election.

Sng also said GRS’s component, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), should not fear PBM after SAPP president Yong Teck Lee said on Sunday they were firm that only local parties should contest in the next state election.

Yong had said this in response to a report quoting GRS chairman Hajiji Noor that the coalition was open to cooperation with all parties at the state level, saying that “in politics, nothing is impossible”.

“GRS should not worry about PBM if it is strong,” Sng said.

The “Borneo bloc” is an informal grouping of the ruling East Malaysia coalitions created when they backed the formation of Anwar Ibrahim’s unity government in November 2022.
