Sungai Udang assemblyman Dr Aleef Yusof said Rauf, who had proposed that the district police headquarters be relocated to Krubong, must answer whether these allegations were true or false.
Aleef opposed the proposed relocation of the Melaka Tengah police headquarters from Bandar Hilir to Krubong, about 14km from the city centre, stating that it was not a strategic location.
“The existing police headquarters is at the most strategic location because it is right in the city centre, a tourism hotspot.
“This makes it easier for the police to handle any crime in the area quickly,” the opposition assemblyman said in a statement.
He also said there were claims that the proposed temporary district headquarters, the Wisma Wawasan Complex in Batu Berendam, was dilapidated and unsafe for policemen.
FMT has reached out to Rauf for comment.
Yesterday, whistleblower Edisi Siasat published on Telegram the claims, purportedly from personnel posted at the Melaka Tengah police headquarters.
The same day, Rauf said the state government had proposed moving the police headquarters to address space constraints as the existing building in Bandar Hilir was constructed in 1924 and could only accommodate six divisions.
The chief minister also said the proposal to build a new district police headquarters was included in the 12th Malaysia Plan’s fifth rolling plan. He said it would cost RM250 million and would be built on a 4.94ha piece of land in Krubong.
