Driver drowns after lorry plunges into sea at Port Klang

Firemen found his body about five hours after the vehicle was seen to suddenly accelerate before plunging into the sea.

PETALING JAYA:
A lorry driver drowned after his vehicle plunged into the sea at the Westport wharf in Port Klang here this afternoon.

Firemen recovered the body of Hafiz Abdul Salam, 24, some five hours later, at about 5pm. It was found at a depth of 13m, some 20m from where the incident had taken place.

The Selangor fire and rescue department said the body was handed over to the police for further action.

The department said witnesses stated that the lorry, parked by the side of the wharf, had suddenly accelerated and crashed through a barrier before plunging into the sea at about 12.45pm.

Firemen, assisted by the Westport authority, police and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, then began a search for the man using three boats.
