
“We sent letters to the states who offered to co-host. Only three states responded with commitments to help bear the cost.
“Some states are interested, but are not ready to provide allocations,” she told reporters at the National Sports Council today, Bernama reported.
Yesterday, the ministry announced that Malaysia has agreed to accept an offer from the SEA Games Federation to host the 2027 SEA Games.
Three states – Penang, Sabah and Sarawak – have so far agreed to co-host the event with Kuala Lumpur.
According to the ministry, the Cabinet made the decision to host the games in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim after taking into account the offer by the three states.
Yeoh said the total cost was estimated at RM700 million, based on the cost of the 2017 SEA Games.
“Sarawak agreed to cover 50% of the cost, which is more than RM300 million. Sabah is offering RM100 million and Penang RM15 million,” she said.
