Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said it was completed within the standard timeframe, Berita Harian reported.
“There was no undue rush. If the investigation is concluded today and charges are filed tomorrow, you could call that rushed,” he was quoted as saying.
According to Razarudin, investigations are generally completed within seven days, while decisions to prosecute are made by the Attorney- General’s Chambers (AGC).
“Within that seven-day timeframe, the investigation could be completed in four days instead. The AGC might then need one or two days, or even just 24 hours, to record statements and issue instructions for prosecution.
“If we are slow, people would say we are inefficient. When we are quick, we are accused of rushing,” he said.
Razarudin was responding to Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu and other Perikatan Nasional leaders, who claimed that the charges against Muhyiddin were filed in a hurry.
Earlier today, Muhyiddin claimed trial to a charge of making seditious remarks in a ceramah in the run-up to the Nenggiri by-election.
The charge is in respect of a speech Muhyiddin made during a PN campaign event at Felda Perasu in Gua Musang, Kelantan, between 10.30pm and 11.50pm on Aug 14.
