PETALING JAYA:
PAS has rejected claims its party leaders were absent when Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin was charged in the Gua Musang sessions court with sedition.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said PAS showed its solidarity with Muhyiddin through the presence of secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, Perak PAS leaders, and other party supporters.

“PAS regrets the report that was published. It is clearly false and is intended to sow division within PN,” he told FMT.

“We question why Muhyiddin is being charged under the Sedition Act, which Pakatan Harapan was always opposed to but are now using while in power.”

Earlier, a news portal reported that the Islamic party appeared to be “distancing itself” from the matter, citing the absence of PAS leaders during the court hearing this morning.

Several Bersatu leaders, including secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin, information chief Azmin Ali and vice-president Radzi Jidin, were seen attending the court proceedings.

Meanwhile, Gua Musang PAS chief Azman Ahmad told FMT several other PAS leaders, including Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria and other local party leaders, were also present in court.

However, he declined to comment on the absence of other senior PAS leaders.

Muhyiddin claimed trial to a charge of making seditious remarks during a ceramah in the run-up to the Nenggiri by-election.

The charge is in respect of a speech Muhyiddin made during a PN campaign event at Felda Perasu in Gua Musang, Kelantan, between 10.30pm and 11.50pm on Aug 14.
